Key Insights from the 2025 Rematec Workshop on Remanufacturing for Composites (Report)

The Rematec Fair 2025 in Amsterdam hosted a highly engaging seminar and workshop: “Enabling Circularity in Key EU Industries: Remanufacturing for Composites” that brought together industry leaders, innovators, and professionals to discuss the latest advancements and challenges in the remanufacturing sector. Organised by META Circularity stream – Challenge Circularity, APRA Europe, and Politecnico di Milano, workshop aimed to foster collaboration and share actionable insights that could shape the future of remanufacturing.

We are thrilled to announce that the comprehensive report summarising the discussions, findings, and key outcomes from the workshop is now ready and available for download.

Workshop highlights

The workshop featured a dynamic lineup of speakers presenting four EU funded projects: rEUman, RECREATE, RemaNet, and ZEvRA. This seminar part was followed by the workshop that was done in Worl Caffe format and covered some of the main topics about remanufacturing. Below are some of the key takeaways that were discussed:

  • Maintaining and Increasing the Value of End-of-Life Materials and Components by Leveraging Remanufacturing Business Models – development of a value chain for “quality scrap” enhanced by regeneration and recyclability as both a design challenge and an opportunity for remanufacturing; involvement of customers in adopting innovative material-based business models such as composites; and exploring best practices alongside future implementation opportunities and challenges.
  • Incentivising Secondary Markets for Core Components– whether human-centric and digital technologies could revolutionize the remanufacturing process chain; examination of the impact of commercial and regulatory incentives and cross-sectorial opportunities
  • Data Management, Traceability, and the Digital Product Passport: Implications for Remanufacturing- whether standardisation enhances the synchronization of information flows both at the brand/producer and industry levels, and early adoption of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) within the automotive or other sectors.
